R-RATED PUPPETS!

Wednesday, 24. November 2010 by Elfsar

So Waverly Films made a pilot for a TV show called ‘The Fuzz’.

“A new police procedural featuring humans intermingling with puppets”.  This was to be based on their classic Puppet Rapist shorts from a few years back.  Comedy Central put it on their development slate for 2010-2011, but now apparently decided to drop it.

Could Comedy Central’s decision be at all related to the announcement of Lionsgate picking up the eerily similar ‘Happytime Murders’ which is an R-rated muppet movie directed by Jim Henson’s son Brian?

(sNSFW, potty-mouthed puppets.)

Here is what Waverly Films is most known for the film ‘Clown’ makes Stephen King’s ‘It‘ look like an animated, made-for-Nick-Jr. musical about mirthful, puppy-adopting clowns who save Christmas.

COOKIE MONSTER WANTS TO HOST SNL!

Tuesday, 23. November 2010 by Elfsar

Much like Betty White, Cookie Monster has been in the business for more than 40 years, is recognized the world over and now has a Facebook campaign to get him on “Saturday Night Live.”  Yes, this would be the first Muppet to ever host “SNL” and you know, I think he’s got a shot.

But in order to do that he needs our help!  Click here to join the Facebook group and help Cookie Monster be the next host!  http://bit.ly/CookieSNL

This brings back so many memories for me as I grew up watching  Sesame Street on a regular basis.  Check out his perfect audition tape below.

THE FORCE IS WITH KATIE!

Monday, 22. November 2010 by Elfsar

Mommy blogger Carrie Goldman wrote an article this week about how her adopted daughter Katie was being bullied by her first grade classmates for — of all reasons — being a Star Wars fan.

The story goes that Katie, who likes Star Wars, has a Star Wars backpack and water bottle which she was very excited to purchase for her new school year. But, after only a few weeks, she told her mom the bottle was too small and that she wanted to take a different one.

After pressing for the real reason, Katie relented:

The first grade boys are teasing me at lunch because I have a Star Wars water bottle.  They say it’s only for boys.  Every day they make fun of me for drinking out of it.  I want them to stop, so I’ll just bring a pink water bottle.

Carrie assured her daughter that it’s okay to be different, and just because she’s a girl doesn’t mean she needs to drink out of pink water bottles.  “I don’t want to be too different,” Katie replied. “I’m already different.  Nobody else in my class wears glasses or a patch, and nobody else was adopted.  Now I’m even more different, because of my Star Wars water bottle.”

Carrie sat Katie down and had a talk with her about the importance of liking what you like, even if it makes you different, and managed to convince her to take the Star Wars bottle to school.

SIDE NOTE: The thing that is most amusing about all this is the boys who teased Katie about her love of Star Wars will spend their entire adult lives looking for a Star Wars geek to settle down with. LOL!

But the story doesn’t end there, thanks to the Internet.  Katie is no longer sad!  Since her story was first posted online by her mom, blogger Carrie Goldman, the Katie Saga circulated throughout the web, initiating a Twitter hashtag, launching a Facebook Event, and eventually reaching the upper echelon of Star Wars fandom (read: the official Star Wars Blog), all while copious comments of sympathy and support continued to pour in through EPBOT and Chicago Now.

Among other exciting offers, young Katie recently received a personal invitation to attend a Clone Wars premier, extended by none-other-than voice actor Tom Kane, AKA Yoda.

“As far as Katie goes,” Goldman writes on her blog, “she has definitely internalized the message that girls can like Star Wars too!  We are reading every single comment, and we plan to print them all into a book for her to cherish as she grows older and navigates the tough teenage years.”

Congrats, Internet. You’ve truly outdone yourself this time.

FIRST LOOK: THE NEW JUDGE DREDD

Friday, 19. November 2010 by Elfsar

A friend just sent this to me via Facebook.  This is an exclusive shot from the new Dredd movie, apparently taken during rehearsals, of Karl Urban wearing the iconic uniform. Enjoy!  My guess is they leaked this to gauge reactions.  The photo is a little muddy but I admit the riot gear suits Dredd and the helmet (which is key) is spot on.

THE WOLVERINE IS A DO-OVER BUB!

Friday, 19. November 2010 by Elfsar

Forget about X-men Origins: Wolverine… A difficult task, I know, but this new movie shouldn’t have anything to do with the characters that were terribly jammed into the first Wolverine movie. The new movie, titled The Wolverine, will NOT be a sequel to the abominable “BarakaPool” story line, according to director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan).  With Aronofsky at the helm and writer Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, The way of the Gun, Valkyrie, The Tourist) penning the screen play, I am intrigued.

The Wolverine is supposed to be loosely based on the Japanese part of the 4 issue series by Miller and Claremont.  The mini-series is often credited with propelling Wolverine from being an obscure comic book character to one of the most popular of all time.

In the movie, we should see Wolverine in Japan portrayed as the complex personality we’re used to.  He learns to love and respect the Japanese culture.  He will be in a complicated relationship situation where he is wanted by a mysterious admirer named Yukio, while he falls in love with a young lady named Mariko Yashida, who is promised away by her father to marry another man.

Aronofsky was interviewed by HitFix and he said that The Wolverine will be a “one-off,” or standalone project.  I hope he is telling the truth and that this movie is NOT a sequel to the junk Fox put out in 2009.  Even though I am weary of trusting Fox and their producers, I think the film is in good hands.  I’m anxious to see this movie even though it will most likely be rated PG-13 so the studio can make millions marketing it to kids.  I know adult Wolverine fans would love to see this movie explore the possibilities of an R rating with all the killing, I just don’t think it’s possible with the amount of money to be made off the expanded market of a lower rating.

Hugh Jackman was interviewed by MTV recently and he said that he is flying to Japan soon, as production is already underway.  Actually filming in Japan with a crew of proven professional film makers where we see ninjas and samurai get sliced up by the Wolverine…  I think Fox has a real chance at redeeming themselves with this one.  The release date has not yet been announced.

The Wolverine is a giant do-over and is led by some very talented people.  So do not be so quick to judge this by the previous film.  In fact, I think you would have more fun watching Wolverine popping balloons than watching X-men Origins: Wolverine.  One question though… they made a big deal about where he got his Jacket in the previous forgettable film.  Will they also redo the Jackets origin or will Aronofsky be smart enough to tell the producers “who gives a fuck, lets focus on making a good film.”

FIRST LOOK: GREEN LANTERN MOVIE TRAILER

Tuesday, 16. November 2010 by Elfsar

Well this trailer has given me a little more faith for the Green Lantern film not to totally blow Green 3D CGI chunks.   The promo footage from ET on Monday was just awful.   It is a little worrisome that Ryan Reynolds is well… playing Ryan Reynolds.  We have yet to see this actors range and it looks like he will play the same character that he plays in every film.  Now that is just fine and dandy if that is what the producers want.  But when I think of the burden of responsibility, the darkness and the complexity of Hal Jordan and his character in the comics over the years, the personality of Ryan Reynolds is not what comes to mind. Check the trailer below and tell me what you think.
